The Summer of George was supposed to be his summer of sweatpants and freedom — I don’t know that I was hoping for anything THAT bold, but I was definitely not hoping for 4 visits to the doctor’s office (I am very bad at going to the doctor!) and 2 visits to the DMV (nobody likes this!) over my summer.
Wow! So many fantastic covers here. Especially that Captain Marvel #43. Somebody on the Twitter noted that Kelly is rapidly approaching 50 issues of this Captain Marvel run, and how rare and wonderful that is. I know that someday this run will end (and I will follow Kelly wherever she goes) but this lovely melding of My Favorite Character and My Favorite Comic Writer has been a genuine thrill.
Really sorry your summer has been such a drag, hope it improves v soon 🙏 that gallery of covers though! That's a stunning collection of beauties right there! 😍 keep bringing that fabulous Danvers action, it is my favourite and first read every time a new issue appears - take care (think that variant cover kind of blows a few secrets 😀)
Unrelated. (Literally nothing about your newsletter is connected). But I just got done listening to this X-Men Audio Drama podcast. Totally free- and it’s so fucking cool! I listened on Spotify, but I think it’s available everywhere.
Anyway... there’s actors playing all the characters, and it starts at like issue 1 from ‘63. I have never listened to anything like this before... but holy shit they hooked me!
I’m not affiliated, btw, lol. I just know you like the Merry Mutants, and this brought me great joy. I think they’re all British too... so that’s awesome.
It's very hard for me to listen to podcasts/audio/etc. Because I either end up tuning whatever it is out to work, or stop working because I get so wrapped up in it. And since I don't commute anymore and travel even more rarely since the pandemic, my few opportunities for audio only stuff have really dried up. But I'll keep it in mind!
🙌 Yyyaaassss! More X-Men from Kelly! I mean, I know who I hope you were able to sneak in. Can't wait to see.
I feel you on the summer being a drag and extra unplanned doctor appointments. I had the pleasure of adding glasses and daily prescriptions to my life recently ... aging sucks.
You have a big anniversary coming up with CAPTAIN MARVEL. I am not sure what the longest, unbroken run by a female-led Marvel title is (within the 616 universe), but I suspect that you are getting close. The Byrne-era SHE-HULK ran 50 issues. The Carol Danvers era MS. MARVEL ended at 49. Her early volumes (7-9) as CAPTAIN MARVEL topped out in the low double digits. SPIDER-WOMAN maxed out at 50 in the late 70s/early 80s.
I have a Happy Planner, and I'm going to customize the covers. I'm going to use two of my favorite- Fantastic Four #200 (Kirby's last cover) and Fantastic #236 (the 20th anniversary FF cover with Byrne drawing all the characters).
I have a few Spider-Man covers having in my apartment- Annual #1 (the Sinister Six), #31, 32, and 33.

OH HEY, and you got X-Men in my Captain Marvel, like Reese's but way way better I can't wait!

If not Logan, maybe Laura? Or Gabby? I know it's probably already written and being drawn and all that, but I like to wish. :)
Maaaaaaaybe ;D
Always enjoy a good update! Thanks!!

Yeah I should’ve prefaced it with “I’m in my car all day long for work” lol.

Your 51st issue might be a record.
Wouldn't it be great if it was! We should all join our minds together and will it to happen!? 🙌🙌

Man those are some great covers y’all. Nice picks!
Oof. Doctors and DMVs, hopefully that trends down and your pitches get picked up. Hot damn for some more captain marvel too.
