That's probably my favorite one of those costume variant covers -- and I'm not even a hard core Jean Grey fan. But it just feels almost hypnotic doesn't it? You can't look away!
And linking to cover is a great idea for the comments section -- I guess I didn't know for sure that that worked -- I REMAIN DUM DUM!
I love the pose on the JG variant. The Invisible Woman one coming out next month is a close second in Russell's series. He said these covers takes 3 times the time for a normal cover.
OK, I was looking through covers for a while trying to figure out how I could pick a favorite when I had my little epiphany and realized there's REALLY only one answer I could give to this - https://www.marvel.com/comics/issue/10357/new_mutants_1983_21
I bought multiple copies of this issue -- 4 I think? -- one to read, one to keep "mint condition" (LOL), one to cut up into collages, and one to frame.
That is an excellent cover. Mattia De Iulis and Rian Hughes are very good at their jobs. It makes me want to read the comic immediately. (And, while I won't get to read it immediately, I'm psyched I'll get to read it soon!)
As for the impossible question of what's my all-time favorite comic cover, I'm going to ignore the seventeen billion incredible covers vying for my attention and go with Old Reliable... a John Romita, Sr. Amazing Spider-Man cover! There are other Romita covers that are just as good and even more iconic, but I always gravitate toward his cover for Amazing Spider-Man #70. https://www.marvel.com/comics/issue/6891/the_amazing_spider-man_1963_70
I love how noir it is: the dark of night with Spider-Man captured in a spotlight. And I love how it perfectly encapsulates that era of Spider-Man: when he was completely misunderstood by everyone, including the cops, because of JJJ's crusade against him. Classic!
My fav cover would be New Mutants #1 written by Ed Brisson/Jonathan Hickman - variant by Javier Garron. I just love the energy in it and joy in it - I don't know how to do links and stuff I'm afraid!
Also, I just read Wolverine & Jubliee on your recommendation Kelly and I can now say I'm definitely a Jubliee convert. There was a handy introduction into her powers in issue #1 which explains she can "generate explosive energy blasts and ignite matter at a sub-atomic level" - that's pretty powerful if you ask me! Also great character work with her in the book and i now see her in a whole new light 👍👍
Hang on, this might be the cover if I've done this right! 🤞
Thinking about Jubilee and being able to "ignite matter at a sub-atomic level", does that mean her powers have infinite reach?! Since at that level her power would continue to expand without anything to get in its way so she would be powerful enough to destroy the universe?! If she was ever that pissed off?!
Maybe. I mean, the description is very broad, but how MUCH she can do with it probably is up to her and depends on circumstances and her own growth right?
But I am no science... guy? SCIENTIST! That's it! ;D
Yeah, as she grows into her powers and begins to fully understand them she could be one of the most powerful, and feared depending on how she wants to take it, of the X-men... I can't believe how my whole take on Jubilee has been turned on its head! Mind blown I believe is how the young folk say it..?! 😁
I've changed my mind about my favourite cover, I bet this happens to people all the time! It's Little Monsters #6 by Dustin Nguyen - it's disturbing, charming and funny all at once and I love it! Can't seem to do the link thing this time, sorry 🤷♂️
I think it's just the most Deadpool cover ever. A friend recommended the series to me and it's what got me back into comics. So hard to pick though. So many tied for second place and including that one two page panel from Black Widow 2016 #1 with Nat jumping out of the helicarrier with no parachute.
This has been my answer since the book came out. It is everything I love about Mad, it is everything I loved about the arc, and it has all of my favorite characters in one place!
Tri-folded holo-foil 90’s goodness?! Fuck yeah, I’m in.
Also-this cover is forever my answer to “if you have no budget what piece of art would you buy”
Well, that's amazing and I love it and we should DEFINITELY do a round up of everyone's favorite commissions they've ever received, but that is DEFINITELY cheating. ;D
Make a new pick for something that was actually published -- so many to choose from!
America #1 McKelvie Variant from the 2017 run by Gabby Rivera. I am pretty sure this cover is what led me down a google search of Jamie and my eventual (albeit late) discovery of Young Avengers and WicDiv.
Absolutely brilliant cover. One that is burned into my brain.
I'm always extra impressed with covers that can play with text and/or break their traditional limitations (like messing with the logo/header, etc.) As I recall there are a lot of home run covers for The Unwritten series!
I’ve never read the issue but my favorite cover is the original Captain America number 1 where he’s punching Hitler, Kelly. There’s just something so powerful about it and inspiring that Timely would publish something like it at the time.
The first thing I thought of was my Neil Gaiman signed Sandman #1 that's on my wall (and he drew something on it too.)
Otherwise, Captain Marvel #16... Carol + Shield + Hammer. That story arc took some weird turns, and I loved it. That pic is the payoff money shot that sealed the deal. (I took a Lego Captain Marvel and gave her Cap's shield and Thor's hammer because it's' really cute.)
Woo, great cover!
Without going through every comic in my apartment, I would have to say Russell Dauterman's Jean Grey costume variant for X-Men #1 (2019): https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/54fce1d5e4b00126ca69156f/1624230057598-NJXUNW7TPIXOUR8J2GB8/russell_dauterman_x-men_1_jean_grey_variant_cover.jpg
I think this was the first variant cover I ever bought.

Link to your covers if you can everybody. Yay!
Woo!

Sienkiewicz is a god. What a cover.
It's X-Men Vol. 2 #24 ... it lives rent free in my brain at all times. 😂 https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/X-Men_Vol_2_24
You KNOW I feel this. ;D
I bought multiple copies of this issue -- 4 I think? -- one to read, one to keep "mint condition" (LOL), one to cut up into collages, and one to frame.
So yeah, it was my favorite cover for A WHILE.
🙌 Seeing this cover made me pick up and read my first superhero comic. 😉 Hooked immediately.
This one is always high on the list! It’s such a classic!
I am going to say Action Comics #419 (https://www.coverbrowser.com/covers/action-comics/9#i419) by Neal Adams and Murphy Anderson.
Adams is one of the greatest cover artists of all-time and the collage of a photo with comic art is fun.
Ask me tomorrow and I'll probably have a different answer.
People are going with a lot of classics!
I wonder how early an example that is (for comics) of mixing photos with art.
I wish I knew! I associate the technique with Kirby, but it might have pre-dated him.
That is an excellent cover. Mattia De Iulis and Rian Hughes are very good at their jobs. It makes me want to read the comic immediately. (And, while I won't get to read it immediately, I'm psyched I'll get to read it soon!)

Classic Spidey. Love it.
The spotlight is REAL BOLD.
THIS IS GORGEOUS KELLY OMFG.
As to your question: Red Sonja #3 by Tedesco. Hands down.
https://twitter.com/carolcollector/status/1367698095727927298?s=20&t=_mL4MBk8Fiy-zMPKgpthwQ
This may be a decent image link that isn't a photo of the cover: https://www.sideshow.com/storage/product-images/500865U/red-sonja-queen-of-hyrkania_dynamite_silo_lg.png
The She-Devil with a Sword. The warrior queen. She is power. Agency. A reclamation of character. Transcendent.
That's gorgeous.
I'm obviously a huge fan of Todesco. Stunning artist.

Yeah, that did it! Nice work.
And that is a fun cover -- I like the Rob Reis main cover of that one too!
Thinking about Jubilee and being able to "ignite matter at a sub-atomic level", does that mean her powers have infinite reach?! oh wow. that looks amazing!
My favorite cover is Deadpool (2012) #4 cover by Geof Darrow and Peter Doherty.
https://www.marvel.com/comics/issue/46038/deadpool_2012_4
I think it's just the most Deadpool cover ever. A friend recommended the series to me and it's what got me back into comics. So hard to pick though. Great Deadpool pick. Such a great summary of the bizarre-ness of being a Deadpool fan, right? Love it.
This one hit several sweet spots for me:
Daredevil 228 by David Mazzucchelli

Fucking great cover!!!

https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Uncanny_X-Men_Vol_1_350
Nice!
Oh man, do I have to pick ONE?! Well... I’m cheating here. Buts is a cover commission I had done of Kate Bishop for a blank Hawkeye cover. My first ever commish and one of a kind! https://twitter.com/damontweet/status/1553887768509644800?s=21&t=rNO4YO6ClWr9iVx0lKblwQ

Very well! I’d have to go with this David Aja cover from James Robinson’s Scarlet Witch series. Incredibly memorable and unique! https://thecomicvault.files.wordpress.com/2018/02/wanda.jpg?w=900
Haha.
Well, you nailed it on your pick -- those covers are incredible -- just an awesome cover run by Aja, no surprise.
America #1 McKelvie Variant from the 2017 run by Gabby Rivera. I am pretty sure this cover is what led me down a google search of Jamie and my eventual (albeit late) discovery of Young Avengers and WicDiv.
Great cover!
Amazing that it led you to other work -- including creator-owned, love that.
1) congratulations! This is gorgeous!
2) Uncanny X-Men #195 where Wolverine is about to gut a kid
1) Mattia is so fucking good it's absurd.
2) lol. That's him vs Power Pack yeah?
Absolutely. The X-Men aren’t even in the first half of the issue but when they arrive Wolverine does indeed accidentally fight a kid
wow. one cover. i’m going with yuko shimizu’s cover to the unwritten #1. conceptually perfect and beautiful
https://yukoart.com/work/the-unwritten-1/?work_subject=dc-comics
Absolutely brilliant cover. One that is burned into my brain.
