My little shark boi. Who knew he had an EISNER IN HIM!?! Frankly? Once Gurihiru got on board, I knew he had one in him, I find everything they do truly magical. And if you do too, check out a bit of info below about their adorable new book UNICO!
I was unfortunately not able to attend the Eisners but the magnanimous and very tall Ryan North read a short little speech for me that mostly thanked Gurihiru and the fans and Marvel and the people I love and talked extremely briefly about how rewarding it felt to win for an all-ages title. Jeff has always felt like a win to me, so him winning… sorta just feels right? But we wouldn’t be here without all of you supporting him, so THANK YOU.
And it WAS a very JEFF SDCC from his debut as a playable character in Marvel Rivals (he’s entered the beta stage — and the hype around him is so big and fun that I am real hopeful he’s a big hit — he certainly took the wind of Thor’s sails — sorry my dude, you’re still cool — it’s just hard to stand next to Jeff) ;D

There was an exclusive SDCC Jeff Plush giveaway. I was lucky enough to get ONE from Marvel directly, but they appear sold out and going for A FUCKING LOT on ebay. Good luck and godspeed if you’re trying to get one — I admit they are very fucking cute.
There was also this cool Jeff fan thing, Jeff pins, Jeff lanyards, and an exclusive poster of Jeff and Galacta by Peach Momoko and this Jeff/Scarlet Witch cover from Peach Momoko is… so great.
Yeah, my boi is getting it done. Pretty proud.
BIRDS OF PREY #12 is out this week (AIPT has the gorgeous 4-page preview) and it is one of my favorite issues of the entire run as it perfectly executes what we’ve been trying (with admittedly mixed results) to do in each of these issues — really highlight the fun (and also danger and chaos) created by the Pocket Dimension. We begin with Javier Pina’s gorgeous shredded dinosaur ladies and then shift into Sophie Campbell’s gloriously fun cartoon world ladies…and Gavin Guidry continues to anchor us in the real world. All of this masterfully colored by Jordie Bellaire. Even Screen Rant’s talking about our “violent cartoon reality.” :D

Our first trade is also out this week! BIRDS OF PREY: MEGADEATH! And because we’re extra lucky there’s a hardcover version AND a softcover.
SCARLETT #3 is also out this week! Skybound has the preview here. And it’s on Bam Smack Pow’s books to read this week.

There’s also a little known book called UNCANNY X-MEN #1 debuting this week and I’ve heard it heavily features Rogue and Gambit. ;D Written by Gail Simone and drawn by David Marquez, who BY THE WAY drew one of the most casual “the hotness of these chaaracters is off the goddamn charts” images of them that exists even BEFORE he got this book, so I expect to be DELIGHTED:
It’s hard to show off BIRDS OF PREY #13 since there’s a lot of spoilery stuff for the end of the arc, so instead I’ll give you a fun sneak at tomorrow’s issue #12 and also a super advance sneak peek at #14 for our new arc starting in October! ;D

POWERPUFF GIRLS #2. So. I’m gonna be real with you, there are so many great sneak peeks for PPG 2 (8/21/24) that I’m going to post multiples. I can’t help it! Especially because, this first one with the rainbows… when you write something like that you’re hoping the artist does something fun with it… when it’s so much better than you could have imagined… well, those are just the best days.
Mojo Jojo and Blossom playing board games was some of the most fun I’ve had writing in a while.
Also, I may have found my favorite villain to write?
SCARLETT #4. Hopefully Marco won’t mind me sharing these super gorgeous inks of Scarlett and Jinx… finally on the page together! SCARLETT #4 is out 9/4/24.
Hopefully Gurihiru won’t mind me sharing a sketch from our new VENOM WAR: IT’S JEFF #1 issue coming out in November. It’s a little early to be sharing things, but I thought die hard IT’S JEFF fans would appreciate the costume. ;D

I literally gasped and bought one of those Jeff pins off ebay so damned fast... he will immediately adorn my metalhead vest in a place of mighty prominence. This was probably my most "HELL YEAH" reaction to any Eisner win I can remember; which seems goofy on the face of it but really isn't, for the reasons you brought up. As for the rest of the newsletter, I can't even decide on something to highlight because it's all SO good.
