Hello my lambs! Apologies for the dark week here on the ol’ Substack. I had a small writing summit I had to do last week, lots of script deadlines, plus I got my Covid booster shot, which put me on my ass pretty hard. But we’re back, baby! This is our usual weekly post (more like bi-weekly?), but we’re gonna start with a big general update before we move on to the more traditional “contents page” stuff.
Oh my goodness that Deadpool & Jeff looks so good. But more importantly.. 2022 is gonna be MASSIVE! Looking forward to reading all the great stuff next year. And, of course, the title is off of Die Hard (100% a Christmas movie).
Here’s a Q if you have time: What inspired you for Captain Marvels newest power-up? It’s just crazy that it hasn’t been done before with her because it just makes *sense*.
I am SO excited for the January releases! It's perfect really, because post winter holidays is the doldrums of the entire year and we need a little cheer. What better to do on a cold winter day than curl up with an awesome comic and a warm beverage? Between your new books and Black Widow returning plus Saga being back, it's going to make me much less likely to want to totally hibernate. 😜
Also I finally got on Marvel Unlimited and have now feasted upon the goodness of all the "It's Jeff" stories. He is the best best boy and I love him!
I know I'm not the first one to prove I know exactly where the title comes from but I want my "secret cool points," too. The quote obviously comes from the classic Bruce Willis action film, "Out of Death" (0% - Rotten Tomatoes). (A movie with no stakes, apparently. Because, judging from the title, everyone's immortal...? "Oh, you want some death? Sorry, pal. We're all out.")
Ha, ha! Jokes R Fun!
Also, I want you to know that you don't need to feel any pressure from me about the drawing for physical prizes because I literally forgot that was a thing! (Which I hope you'll take as a testament to how much I love your writing. Because I'm not here to win cool stuff, I'm here to get access to your awesome work and learn about your creative process and whatnot.) Now, that's not to say I want my name removed from the upcoming drawings. I still hope to win me some physical prizes like a pair of "Widow's Bite" bracelets, signed by Natasha Romanoff or maybe a pair of those "Soul Print" goggles from Black Cloak. (I wouldn't trust myself with one of the sidearms.)
I'm a comics retailer--your books sell great and I have long made the pronouncement that you're one of the very best writers working within the mainstream. You both have a voice of your own, and you capture the best parts of my favorite runs. Your Black Widow feels like a worthy successor to the Waid / Samnee run to me, and your Hawkeye felt like a direct sequel to what Fraction and Aja established.
Personally I was a late backer because I didn't get the memo about your substack starting up. Not sure how to boost that signal, but maybe once the pages are flowing freely some more buzz will generate? I certainly hope so, everyone needs to get it together and give you their money :)
This all looks so exciting Kelly! I can't wait for the next few releases (and beyond!) Now if we're not sure about where we fall on the various cutoffs, is there any way to know?
