So as we continue this little PR roll-out in advance of The Cull — I thought it’s been so long since we first started talking about this last year, that maybe you guys would enjoy a refresher on the characters — and some of Mattia’s gorgeous process.
YES! We are doing more! The trade of the first arc is out in September and we're planning for issue 7 to hit in November or December.
I'll be making a more official announcement here shortly -- hopefully with some art -- always goes over better with art! ;D -- but there's talk of it in the FIRST BLACK CLOAK LETTERS page in issue #6 in stores in two weeks.
Meredith and I are very excited about what's next -- we hope you guys will be too!
Can I add for other Aussies like me who might be over an hour away from a comic book shop, Comicbookeroo is an online Melbourne shop where you can pre-order The Cull (and all the other goodies we read about) and they have something akin to these pull lists that we read about. (No affiliation - just discovered them as an easier alternative to our semi regular family trip to the city for comics.)
Actually this little mini-discussion has me thinking I'll ask people to tell me about/link to their great local shop in a future post -- so that I can gather them up and feature them.
Yeah, I talked with Mitch and he was just terrific. Super impressed and was bummed I couldn't get him a package in a timely fashion for this. Will try to think of better options for International next time.
Oh I can imagine. Retail... books... it's hard. There used to be a comic shop near me, but they closed during lockdown. Now it's just an occasional family trip to the city for comics and dinner.
Nice!! The cast reminds of your Storykillers crew a bit. Probably a dumb question but will this be available to read on Substack like Black Cloak or do I need to track down a LCS or comiXology subscription Kelly? Regardless sign me up✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
It will be on Substack. And for all year one subscribers like you -- I'm trying to make sure all 5 issues are available to all of you -- but it's a little tricky with the paywall. I'm working on it!
I will add to the chorus of " what is favorite movie??"-- but also--
I manage Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles, and we've ordered a mountain of the Cull #1 because you're the best and the art is brain melting. We also offer pre-orders through our online sister business for those in need of shipped books, and I would post a link but that feels...crass? There's a search bar on goldenapplecomics(dot)com, you'll figure it out.
Also, I don't know what these comp packages are but I hope we're getting one! 😎
Nobody from Golden Apple (great shop!) responded to Image's email (they basically send a letter from me to all the retailers) asking for a package -- but I have a couple left if you want me to send one! Just send me the Golden Apple address/confirm you want it and I'll get it out ASAP.
I can ask for you if you like -- I can't actually see the list myself but I can ask what they've got listed -- I'm sure Image would love to update it if it's not going to the correct person.
I will get this out on Monday! Thanks so much, Joe and I hope the stuff is helpful to you!
I HAVE been in before -- more than once -- when I lived in LA -- many years ago. It's a great shop.
Thanks for the shout-out to all-star comics in Melbourne Australia they're my local Comic Shop.. and I have this one on order and I am loving black cloak.. keep up the good work
Yeah, Midtown is a great option for people that don't have a close enough local shop. You can even do pull lists with Midtown -- I think you get 20% off everything on your pull list? And they just ship to you. Pretty great.
The Raid is a FANTASTIC CHOICE to give as a character’s favorite movie.
When I decided my main character’s favorite movie, I invented one. And then the lead actor. And then the plot of the movie. And then the themes. And then the final shot. And then a fan theory. And then his filmography. And the novel the favorite movie was based on. And the author of said novel. And another novel by the author. It was..a lot. I went deeper into that rabbit hole than was strictly necessary or completely healthy, but it sure was fun.
Oh no, Thompson, you don’t get off that easy... finish the quote! What is Lux’s real favorite movie? And she is my fave so far.
That was going to be my first thing to say, too! LOL.
Exactly the same thought!
This looks so awesome! Can’t wait to read it.
Gonna go out on a limb here, but is Lux’s favorite movie Universal Soldier (1992)?
really looking forward to this! love the coloring videos.
HOWEVER... "Favorite Movie: Lost In Translation is what she tells people but it’s really"
really what?! what is lux's true favorite movie!?
I have Cull on my pull list. I’m very excited to read it! Is Black Cloak going to continue as an ongoing? I really hope so, because I am loving it!

Can’t wait!!
THIS LOOKS SO GOOD
I think I'm subscribed to the Cull at Cape and Cowl in Oakland if folks are in the Bay Area. Great shop.
And the little tastes of this book just make me more excited for it. Can't wait. I'm just happy we have Black Cloak to tide us over until it drops.
<3
I am lucky enough to have All Star as my local Comic shop. Excited about The Cull!

I subscribed at my local comic store. But you can order the physical copies from midtown comics? That would be very cool as well.

That is... a lot of work, but also DOES sound fun. ;D
