Fuuuuuuuuuck!! That’s mic-dropping good! Can’t wait to see this come together.
You know what I can’t get enough of? Even in my adult life- Adventures in Babysitting. I laugh way to hard at it, and it really makes me happy, even on my almost 40 year old heart.
Josh and Tyler really own the market on modern comics with the teen adventures, right? 4 Kids, and now WTFPFH? Brilliant stuff!
I really enjoy the young/teenage heroes books overall though from a Marvel/DC standpoint.
Young Justice by David/Nauck is my absolute favorite DC book ever released. I’ve read the entire run multiple times, and laugh/cry every time.
New X-Men by Kyle/Yost is also one of my favorite (and super underrated) X-books ever as well. The emotional toll that book took on me, especially after M-Day, will never be forgotten. It was like reading the hunger games with that body count! Avengers Arena was crazy like that too. GDamn Arcade... lol
This may be a stretch, but the manga Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind by Hayao Miyazaki is one of my all time faves. She does meet at least one or two peers along the way, but it's mostly a solitary fantasy adventure coming of age epic.
A pick for lighter / younger comics joy would be This Was Our Pact which fully fits the genre in question and delightfully tells the story of a group of children riding their bikes further away from home than they've ever been into a world of magical creatures and adventure. Apparently it's being made into an animated film with Peter Dinklage voicing a bear they meet on the journey :)
Oh wow ... you really feel like you're just right in the page! Very spooky and mysterious!
🤔 Hmmm ... I have to say my gateway scifi/fantasy stories were both classic novels involving the "kids on insane adventure" trope. My all time favorite is very much still "A Wrinkle in Time" and after that, "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe". Both just very foundational.
And then as a kid of the eighties, been obsessed with "The Goonies" for as long as I can remember. 😂
I know you’re not overly fond of Stranger Things, but the way it’s developed over the last four seasons is tremendous, so that’s my pick. It’s a mash-up of all kids/teens go on epic adventure stories ever, so that’s part of why. But the meta narrative of ST is so well executed that it should, and does, stand on its own merits next to all the other examples.
That being said, I can’t NOT mention ET it’s Kids Have Adventure distilled into its purest form. Was never much of a Goonies fan, but that deserves a mention too.
See Also: Narnia, Box-Car Children, the OG Percy Jackson series, the OG animated Teen Titans show, Avatar the Last Airbender, John Flanagan’s entire oeuvre, and HP.
His Dark Materials (the book trilogy and the HBO show). Philip Pullman establishes a massive world and then sets two children onto all the hijinks and adventures you can imagine.
It's so pretty. It hurts my eyes it's so pretty.

Ps- these pages are drop dead gorgeous 😍
I love Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.
I bought This Was Our Pact for my nephews, but haven't read it myself -- glad to know it was a good pick!
PS - thank you! Mattia is killing it. <3
A great pick! You'll have to borrow it back :)
🥵 too hot! That work is just too hot! 👌 😍

What phenomenal work, I can’t wait
Me looking at these: “Oh wow, beautiful photos ... wait a minute ... 🤯” Insane stuff!! Can’t wait to read it.

I find it fascinating that you're such a big fan of Stranger Things but not of Goonies.
Since I'm the reverse...I wonder if there's something there? Hmmm.
I saw Goonies when I was way too young/cinematically inexperienced, and it terrified me. Watching Stranger Things as an adult is completely different.
I too love Stranger Things and am mostly indifferent to Goonies. You're not alone ☺️
Fascinating.
Wow.
Whoa.
Yeah, it is going to be very very beautiful.
Hopefully I don't fuck up the other parts! ;D
Paper Girls, ET
😲
For the question : In comics, I liked Locke and Keys by Joe Hill a lot.
His Dark Materials (the book trilogy and the HBO show). Philip Pullman establishes a massive world and then sets two children onto all the hijinks and adventures you can imagine.
