I am not really sure that the title character can steal a movie, but Lanchester comes close.
It is an interesting movie to re-consider from a 21st century POV. The "crime against nature" that is the subject of the horror is two gay men using a woman's body to create life. That is something that is utterly routine now with IVF and surrogacy.
I haven’t seen it mentioned in the newsletter, so, I not sure if you’re aware of it, but there’s a new Jeff The Land Shark collectible coming out. The model / figure kit company Blokees is releasing one of Jeff The Land Shark, as part of the Marvel Rivals Champion Class line of model kits. They’re real easy to assemble, no tools, snap together parts, and, in the end, you have a good size, action figure of Jeff The Land Shark.
Wow! You made my day. Frankenstein is my favorite monster of all. The only other one I dare to put in the same rank is Monster of the Black Lagoon!
Then when I was growing up, I discovered Bride of Frankenstein.
Dear god, what you've done to me? That's it, I was sold.
Elsa Lanchester was my de facto icon. I loved the mithology and maybe that's why I liked Malificent more in the animated version of Sleeping Beauty when I saw it the first time.
Everyone was rooting for Prince Phillip and Aurora, but I was in awe with that huge, big dragon she became that spilled green fire.
I don't need to say that I loved what Angelina Jolie did it, right?
After that I always loved the heroines more than the heroes. Not that I'm dismissive about them. I love Conan the Barbarian as anyone else.
But Sarah Connor? Ripley? Judge Anderson? Marada and Sonja? Morgana LeFey?
I think Black Lagoon is Sophie Campbell's favorite. Which is a way of saying you like what Sophie and I look and thus you have excellent taste. ;P
The Angelina Jolie thing is so shockingly good and totally underrated. It's VERY my kind of thing...although it sort of came draped in a thing that is less my kind of thing? And I wonder if that hurt it -- people like us finding it less often than we should. It's straight up brilliant IMO. I wasn't thinking specifically about Maleficent when I build the Circe/Diana thing -- but I can TOTALLY see its fingerprints on it (in a great way).
I hope you dig it -- we've clearly got a lot to live up to!
That is so rad Kelly. Congrats on the new book. spooky season is so far away <sigh>. We try to watch a bunch of the universal monster movies in October. Although, i do have some trouble suspending my belief in wolfman with lon chaney playing a college kid. such an odd casting choice.

I was watching the shop like a hawk for that issue and was surprised when it was listed as sold out. And thanks to everyone with the courage, time, and sense to ask the question!
