As we celebrate/mourn the end of our Eisner-Winning Black Widow run, I wanted to take a minute to shout out to the incredible team: Elena Casagrande, Jordie Bellaire, Adam Hughes, Rafael De Latorre, Elisabetta D’Amico, Rafael Pimentel, Carlos Gomez and
I am DISTRAUGHT that this is over! 😭 I loved absolutely everything you all did on this - truly amazing 👏 I wasn't a fan of Black Widow before this but naturally i picked it up when I saw that you were writing and then the art team you managed to get fitted so perfectly! I felt for sure this would get a much longer run! I do believe you have set a new, very high, Black Widow standard that anyone who comes along after will have a job on their hands maintaining - hopefully, if there is any justice in this world you will get to do more and give Nat, Yelena and the team the send off this whole wonderful book deserves 🤞 congratulations to you on all the wonderful work and love to you and your team 🥰
Wow, the 2nd of the two 2nd print concepts is SO COOL. Would have loved to see that one printed. We can always dream of that along with the rest of the series we all want to continue reading 😭 Thanks for compiling this post of my very favorite things from the series. Elena is amazing 😍 Can't wait to see what she does next!
Oh damn! I should have had people put their fav in the comments! I'm gonna add that real quick in hopes some folks see it. What about the rest of you? Can you pick a fav?
Thanks so much for compiling, annotating, and sharing these with us! I put some of these on my FB and the response was lots of Wows and Loves.
Honestly, when I saw the new Black Widow comic coming out, I said hmm, I like Nat. Looks good. Who's writing? Kelly Thompson! Pre-order series subscription. I am bittersweet at this point, but whoa nelly, what a ride it's been.
These are the kind of pages that hooked me right away. The compositions were always incredible, and really captivated me as a reader. And that line work!!?! Just so so fucking good.
Thanks for revisiting! I’m a sucker for fun behind the scenes stuff!
Thank you so much Kelly and everyone who worked on Black Widow! It was my favourite pull for Marvel and I really looked forward to reading it each month. The De Luca is/was a beautiful way to depict action that I’ve never seen before and I’m going to miss them!
Very cool. Is the DeLuca effect what Carmine Infantino (and later George Perez) used to depict the super-speed of The Flash? I was always sorry that DC went away from that.
Really going to miss this series! The artwork Elena did was A+, S-tier, out of this world special. I think my favorite of these effects was the 5th issue with Clint looking down from above (and those individual boxes having that purple tint to them). Reminded me so much of Kate’s purple bullseye effect when she locked in on things! Great touch. And also, easily, my favorite BW widow suit ever. 🖤
As a former HUGE MMO player (I spent so much time playing City of Heroes!), I can't help but think of Damage Per Second when I see the acronym DPS. What is so great about so many of these action packed Double Page Spreads from Elena, Rafael, Elisabetta and Jordie is .... Damage Per Second fits too! What an incredible team and what an incredible book. Take a bow Team Black Widow and thanks for the ride.
I believe that is correct. I mean, I know she does traditional commissions at shows and stuff, but for her comics work, I believe you're correct. Still, some limited edition signed giclee prints of that last glorious spread (well, okay, a few of them!) would still be preeeeetty cool. ;D
I apologize if you wrote about this explicitly (I did a quick review of the scripting process junkie posts) but how do you format a De Luca Effect in the script.

Those are amazing spreads! I never knew that type of layout had a name. It’s very cool. Like watching a dance. I love all the movement.
I am going to miss this book so damn much! I will probably always hold out hope for a reunion of this entire creative team someday!
Well, hopefully we ARE doing that. That's the plan, but there are definitely some logistics to be worked out before I can promise anything.

Oh hey, my faves are #3, #7, and #15. I think #7 is my favorite, but it's a close call. They're all wonderful.

Покойся с миром, Наташа Романова. 😭😭😭😭 Thank you for an incredible run, Kelly

Keeping my fingers crossed! 🤞🏻I so very enjoyed everything about this series — I will miss it! 🙁

You know, I haven't read much Flash...but it could be? Would certainly make a ton of sense for a speedster.
Yeah. I am obsessed with old school DC. More on the art side than the story side. Infantino would do a thing where every other figure was lighter.

Yeah, it was such a great change up. Elena was always thinking and often surprising me. But always in a great way!

Haha! Definitely works on both levels here!
would love to buy one of these, but it’s my understanding elena is all digital these days.

i’d buy one for sure. cheers

Forgot the question mark: ?
Yeah, dang, these are fantastic and thanks for collecting them for this post. I’ll miss BW, which was always the first book I read when it came out.
Oh, and I remember being blown away by 5 when I saw it
