I have you know, here in Australia (aka the arse end of the world. Seriously, one of our former Prime Minister's called it that) it is neither a long weekend nor a weekend. It was my birthday on the 3rd, but it was tragic as it was also my mum's and late dad's anniversary (no, I was born three years after the marriage) so eating Red Rooster roast chicken meal was as low as a highlight you can get.
So seeing some Semi Finalist artwork was a great way to get through a Monday!
I thought I couldn't get more excited about Birds of Prey (as I'm pretty damn excited already). but those BEAUTIFUL PAGES! OMG. I loved the Black Widow art that showed the flow of combat, and we're getting more of that here.. it's SO GOOD.
Just finished the first Birds of Prey issue. I absolutely love the art style and am very intrigued by the story and the team dynamic (especially as a huge fan of the 90s Wild C.A.T.s TV show). It also has a great hook at the end when I found out where the team actually needs to go to accomplish their goal. 10/10 from me so far!
Me too! I'm a big fan of –that one superhero the end of the first issue alludes to– so I'm really looking forward to seeing them in a bit different light.
Birds of Prey #1 is OUT and it is 100% pure uncut Thompson and Romero. No better artist for both the expressive character designs and face-breaking action than Leonardo, and instant character development and a twisty plot that explains a lot but still has mysteries from Kelly. When I think about the X-Men comics I used to read, with two or three women that were only differentiated by hair color, this is just light years ahead of them olden days. A book packed with real-sounding conversations and lots and lots of women.
Kelly, Birds of Prey #1 was perfection. This was my most anticipated comic all year, and it did not disappoint. The whole team really knocked it out of the park. The art is brilliant and stands out against every other book on shelves right now. I am continually impressed with your ability to establish each character's voice and motivations in sometimes just a single page. Your inclusion and portrayal of all the characters, but especially of Harley Quinn, is spot on and inspired, and I can't wait to continue reading each issue and buying every variant cover I can. So so so happy to see you at DC!
Man, I was starting to worry that I was getting too hyped for the first issue, but it really delivered on all fronts. What an opening, I already want this series to keep running for years and years!

Honestly? I was getting worried too. The hype was getting SO BIG.
I'm glad it was okay for you -- seems like it worked okay for most folks. Over the moon!
The issue is even better than the hyped-up-part of my brain had hoped for, so yeah, definitely okay, please never stop writing this team.

Thanks for keeping everything fun, Kelly! I'm seeing lots of sisterhood in all those previews, and it gives me the warm fuzzies.
Gonna be a couple of great weeks for comics! 🙌 Looking so forward to these!
