I’m going to try to get in and out quickly today as I’ve got a lot going on (I’m sure you do too) and you’ve already been hearing from me quite a bit lately. However there’s a surprising amount of cool stuff going on this week and I just gotta highlight some of it real quick. Strap in!

I never get to use the NEWS banner! Yay!
I could have maybe also used the ANNOUNCEMENTS banner…hmmm. Nope. I’m sticking with NEWS.
My very good friend and the brilliant comics creator Matthew Rosenberg has finally launched his paid Substack:
And that means lots of cool things, but mostly it means LOTS more brilliant creator-owned comics from Matt and a slew of the some of the best talent in the business — Tyler Boss, Jordie Bellaire, Juan Ferreyra, Josh Hixson, Stefano Landini, Andy MacDonald, Javier Rodriguez, Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, and editor Rachel Pinnelas. Seriously, it’s just a murder’s row of brilliant comic creators. I have seen a bit of what they’ve got coming and it’s just as excellent as all of Matt’s previous creator-owned work — 4 KIDS WALK INTO A BANK, WE CAN NEVER GO HOME, and the current WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE. You’re gonna want to see what these guys are building. <3
Also launching this week is some guy named Joshua Williamson. You may know him from writing…oh, I don’t know…EVERYTHING!?!
That’s right, Joshua Williamson is bringing at least some of his incredible talent to creator-owned comics via Substack and while I know less about his plans than I do Matt’s, I cannot wait to see what he has in store for all of us. From the looks of his opening posts fans of his NAILBITER series, and horror in general will be very pleased (I mean, it is CALLED Super Scary Newsletter…so maybe put your big boy pants on before going in? Just a thought!)
Not on Substack, but Gerry Duggan launched a Kickstarter yesterday for his gorgeous photography book TIMING/LUCK. I know a photography book maybe isn’t exactly everyone on this site’s thing but I actually think what Gerry’s done is so incredibly cool — because his life is such the life of a comic book writer the book is filled with his travel photos and behind the scenes of comics (with lots of notable faces) — so it’s kind of like getting a backstage pass to comics and even “comics royalty” (I can say that because I’m not in there — but only because Gerry is very respectful of my “photograph me and die painful.” stance. It’s a surprisingly unique experience — a corner of comics unexplored. Check it out!
Kate Beaton. One of the greatest cartoonists of all time is finally back with a new book. DUCKS.
I expect it to be sad and lonely and beautiful and insightful and probably also quite funny, because Beaton herself seems to be all these things. Her voice is powerful and she’s smart about how she uses it. My time is never wasted when I give it to her and I always find myself made better for whatever it is she wanted to tell me.
My good friend Matt Bogart had the second volume of his excellent graphic novel INCREDIBLE DOOM (by Bogart and Jesse Holden) launch this past week, and it’s just as incredible as volume 1. If you’re into “90s kids getting their lives turned upside down by the early internet” then this is for you (and you are because it’s fun and emotional and full of bittersweet nostalgia!) You can get Incredible Doom anywhere (mostly?) comics are sold, including at Matt’s shop (linked above) — though at Buy Olympia they have a pretty great little extras package that includes a bookplate signature and some fun retro bits (I’ll be ordering that one myself). ;D
Okay, moving on…but I gotta be quick!
This week is actually A BIG DEAL because not only is CAPTAIN MARVEL #41 out TODAY, but also there will be more IT’S JEFF on Friday on Marvel Unlimited. I’m not sure if Jeff will be one or two episodes, but there should be SOMETHING.
This week is the end of our “Magical Tribunal” arc in CAPTAIN MARVEL. I loved doing this weird little story with a slightly different approach to how we handled art and storytelling, and I hope you guys enjoyed it too. Not so low-key my favorite panel from this issue:
But big things like this also happen:
And of course nonsense like this, because — after all — it is still a “Kelly book” ;D
And next month (Oct) we tie into AXE with a “very special Chewie episode.” Don’t miss it! Also that will be one of the Captain Marvel/Jeff The Landshark (and Chewie!) variants — so keep your eyes peeled if you’re trying to snag one.
MORE sneak peeks huh? Boy, someone sure is greedy.
It’s me, I am the greedy one.

And from CAPTAIN MARVEL #43 (our big new arc launching in November) — art by Sergio Davila:
I’m not sure what order the Jeff episodes are coming out in on Marvel Unlimited, but I put in some cute sneak panels from the two strips that I suspect might be the next two episodes. Art/colors all by Gurihiru:
And in case you missed the first three episode that released last week, here are four absolutely adorable panels from those first three episodes:
From BLACK CLOAK Chapter 6 — art/colors by Meredith McClaren. You guys may recognize this as one of the colored panels from the in process page she posted in her great Process Junkies piece this past weekend:
From THE CULL #1 — art/colors by Mattia De Iulis:
Ah, god, I can’t wait to debut this book! Ahhhhhhh!

Clive and The Monarch giving serious LEWKS for their Sophomore Album Cover:
And behind the scenes, Monarch in the studio making the album. Boy those beats can beat you down, huh Monarch?
It’s a lot of pressure, I know.
Keep going, baby, you’re doing it! You’re going to discover a sound that changes the world (no, he’s not, but shhhhh).
Okay, back to work with me. I hope your Wednesday is full of amazing comics!
~Kelly
