THE BIGGER THEY ARE
Hello Everyone
ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #17 out today!
I’m still working on getting out all the orders that came in when I listed the Annual and Trades last time — but the web store has been updated with ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #17 and also a precious few (I literally have 8) ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN ANNUAL #1s that have been restocked — main cover only.
For now I’m going to keep up with this policy of ONE copy of each cover per person for NEW COMICS (30 days from release). So you can get every single variant I’ve got of a single book, but please don’t buy multiples of one cover.
If you have already ordered and want to order again, I will automatically combine your packages and refund you the duplicate shipping (assuming it will all fit in one package).
Last but not least — a new Discount Code — only one use per order. Just enter ABSOLUTE at checkout for 22% off your order.
ETA: After posting this I got a whole mess of FOIL variant comps of ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #17 — I’ve put them up in the store (Nakayama, Kirkham, Cohen, and a cool armored Giang one I hadn’t seen before). None are cheap, but if you were hoping to snag one, they’re there now. ALSO. I have a really gorgeous Diana Sozomaika (MegaCon Orlando) and a Zatanna EOM (both in foil and regular) that will release in March I believe — I’m waiting for them to be publicly available. So if you are looking for those or know about them — I hope they’ll be available in a few weeks.
So yeah, ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #17 is out TODAY! Woop! Here’s a preview in case you missed it.
I want to flag something for the die-hards out there — the Riley Rossmo Variant cover of this week’s issue includes a golden lasso and that is a MISTAKE. Literally, that is DC accidentally printing the wrong file, after it was corrected. Please do not assume it is a tease for an upcoming issue.
Also, just in general, you really should never take a variant cover THAT seriously. No matter how cool they are (or are not) they are probably the thing the creative team is involved the least with — so you’re very rarely going to find some incredible easter egg in there about future plans. Often the first time I see a variant is when everyone sees it when it’s released to the public. * shrugging emoji *
DC is having a REALLY good year. It’s good for readers, good for creators, good for publishers and I’m incredibly honored to be a part of it. Thanks to all of you for reading and telling everyone you know. It makes a huge difference and I’m glad we could give you guys something worth talking about.
Some very cool news for Archie — partnering with Oni Compact Editions to release collected material — including the Mark Waid, Fiona Staples, & Annie Wu ARCHIE, but also, yours truly’s SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH — with incredible Veronica Fish art — will get collected. And Chip Zdarsky/Erica Henderson’s Jughead too. Anyway, fun news all around.
I did an audio interview with ON THE SHELF WITH HONORA QUINN. It’s also reproduced in text — though forgive the bits that are a little rough — transcribing un-scripted stuff is always a bit rough to read — don’t be too hard on my extra dumb thoughts. lol
As usual, the art out there that people are producing out of sheer love is delighting me. Annie Wu should get everything she wants in the world:
High octane team up vibes from Raphael Pool:
I wish the nose was less upturned and she had the black lipstick, but this is gorgeous by Adriana Melo:
Love this one by Jorts — this was my favorite of theirs, but they have several great Absolute Dianas on their Insta, so check out the link if you dig this cutie:
I’ve talked quite a bit on here about my love of ANDOR. That it is the most I’ve ever loved anything Star Wars. It, to me, more than even A NEW HOPE (the obviously important first piece) or THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (my favorite piece of Star Wars for my whole life until recently), was everything STAR WARS should be. Everything it was always reaching for. Everything it was trying to tell us and make us feel. ANDOR is generational work for me — and if watching it at this particular moment in time doesn’t radicalize you…I don’t even know.
Tony Gilroy, who was one of my favorite creators long before ANDOR — I like to joke that I could do a MICHAEL CLAYTON one-man-show RIGHT NOW to 70% accuracy because I’m such a fan…but this is a lie, I could probably only hit 50% accuracy at best. ;)
Anyway, Tony Gilroy is the mastermind behind ANDOR, who brought together a truly one-of-a-kind team (front of house and back of house) to create this indelible piece of art. And there’s a terrific interview with him in The Hollywood Reporter this week that I urge all of you to read.
One thing that he hit on, is people calling ANDOR prescient, and how, while flattering, that’s misleading, because they really just looked at history to do what they did. And to be honest, I think that’s why most great sci-fi is called prescient — they simply look to the horrible past to predict the horrible future.
One of my favorite authors, Octavia Butler, feels incredibly prescient in all her sci-fi. It was straight up difficult to read the brilliant PARABLE OF THE SOWER and PARABLE OF THE TALENTS this past fall because the nightmare world she presents is not only 100% believable but the reality we’re hurtling toward.
She can’t predict the future, but she doesn’t need to, she just needs to look at the past to know what human beings are capable of. To know what Humanity WILL do you only need to look back and see what they HAVE done. That’s the trick. That’s all of it. I mean, sure, it helps to be creative and brilliant and a hard worker (as Tony Gilroy and Octavia Butler both are I’m sure) but they’re not reading some magical tea leaves, they’re just logically extrapolating from the horrors that have already happened.
The real fuck up in all this, is that incredible prescient-feeling science fiction warning us of these dark futures — it turns out a lot of people seemed to miss that these books are warnings shouted desperately into the world, not blueprints and to-do lists for how to ruin everything.
Doesn’t need much introduction. It’s awesome. You might cry, but one of those good ones about how hope is everything and not giving that up is all that matters sometimes.
We’re a bit light on sneak peeks at the moment with only ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN currently releasing. But enjoy the break because we’re heading into finally getting some BUFFY and ANGEL teases coming through, and also two new projects that are not yet announced are going to start making noise soon (one is certainly Jeff-shaped!)
For now though some ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #18 (March) by Hayden Sherman:
Not beating the “longboi” allegations…
Have a good week everyone. See you soon. <3

Real Quick -- I added this to the post in housekeeping, but I think some people that are pretty engaged here might see it here more easily -- so putting this update here in the comments as well:
