Hello! Hope this finds all of you well. Or as well as can be in these rather difficult times.

A nice end of the year treat for me (and hopefully my teams feel similarly - and you guys enjoy it too) was that BLACK WIDOW, CAPTAIN MARVEL, and even IT’S JEFF and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN BEYOND ended up on some terrific end of the year lists. It’s an incredible feeling to be in the company of fantastic work and legendary creators. Honored to be considered among them.

Panel from Black Widow #12 by me, Elena Casagrande, and Jordie Bellaire. Inks by Elisabetta D’Amico. Lettering by Cory Petit

Click on any of the below for terrific lists full of awesome books worthy of checking out:

Multiversity: Best Ongoing Series of 2021 (Black Widow - #4)

Multiversity: Best Writers of 2021 (Kelly Thompson)

Multiversity: Best Artists of 2021 (Elena Casagrande)

Multiversity: 2021 Dave Stewart Award for Best Colorist (Jordie Bellaire)

And it is REALLY exciting to see something from Substack landing on a “best of” list already - that makes me pretty damn happy!)

CBR: Top 100 Comics of 2021, Part 2 - Captain Marvel coming in at 62!

THIS WEEK

Okay, well, there’s nothing this week…well, not from me leastways. But Pat Gleason — part of the Amazing Spider-Man Beyond Board — has his AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #83 out this week and you should all pick that up!

Also, if you have been enjoying the De Luca Effect that I’m so fond of — and which Elena and I use in a big way in BLACK WIDOW — you should definitely pick up last week’s NIGHTWING #87 by Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo, which takes De Luca Effect to a whole new level in this one and done story. Very fun stuff from Tom and Bruno and their whole team — Adriano Lucas, Wes Abbott, editors Jessica Chen, Jessica Berbey, and Ben Abernathy. Reading it — you can just FEEL the love of comics — it practically oozes out of it.

And if you want to read more about the De Luca Effect check out this post:

NEXT week — 1/5/22 — we’ve got both CAPTAIN MARVEL #35 and, after far too long a wait — BLACK WIDOW #13 — out in stores everywhere! They are both big issues…but in sort of strange ways? I love them for being a bit strange, I hope you will too.

SNEAK PEEKS

Still struggling with this section a bit since shipping got so messed up with labor shortages, paper shortages, etc., but trying my best. Since BLACK WIDOW 13 is out next week, I guess I can finally show off something a little more significant:

A great Phyla-Vell panel from CAPTAIN MARVEL #35, out next week!

Art from Captain Marvel #35 by Sergio Davila and Sean Parsons. Colors by Jesus Aburtov

And here’s some gorgeous Carol from CAPTAIN MARVEL #35:

AND since we’re beginning to release sooooon, a sneak peek from the world of BLACK CLOAK:

UPCOMING RELEASES

Not much has changed in this section since early December when I last posted one of these…which makes this section a bit boring. But in the case of schedules, boring is good, right? aka nothing much has seemed to move around since last time, nice and boring.

CAPTAIN MARVEL #35 - 1/5/22

BLACK WIDOW #13 - 1/5/22

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND VOLUME 1 - 1/19/22

CAPTAIN MARVEL #36 - 2/5/22

BLACK WIDOW #14 - 2/16/22

CAPTAIN MARVEL #37 - 3/16/22

As mentioned last time I also have a couple AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND issues coming (looks like March 2022?) I’ll try to confirm dates and add them for next time - but you’ll be looking for ASM #91 and #92.

SOMETHING GOOD

As it’s the end of the year, it was time to make my first donations to The Trevor Project and The Trans Lifeline, as promised in my FAQ section. As promised, I will continue to collect my cut of the Substack fees from our first year and accumulate them to send to the pre-selected charities. This will continue on in 2022 as promised, but for tax purposes, it seemed like I should do one payment now in 2021 and one payment in 2022 when we close out that year.

I’m happy to report that thanks to this Substack and all of you, for 2021 we’re donating $750.00 to The Trans Lifeline and $750.00 to The Trevor Project. THANK YOU!

CATS!

We went on a trip for the holidays. The boys felt a certain way about it:

Clive also later felt this way about it:

I hope all of you have been able to see some friends and family, or at least get a break from the weird intensity that we all find ourselves living in these days. Please be safe, wear a mask, get your vaccines, and take care of yourselves. <3

Probably one more post before the end of the year…and then 2022 will be upon us. It goes SO fast! Hard to believe really. While I am anxious about saying that I hope 2022 will be better than 2021 — as I’m all too keenly aware that is what we were all saying LAST year — I still have to hope.

At least personally this will be a big, exciting, and also scary year for me with the launch of all these comics. And I hope in that way at least it will be a good year for me and in a small way for you too maybe.

I’m really excited and grateful to have all of you with me on this journey. <3
