Newsletter #3. Wow. Look at that Contents Page. Fancy.
Some people have been saying a table of contents is really cool in a newsletter. So we’re gonna try it, because I’m nothing if not weak willed and easily swayed by other people’s cool ideas.
This week!!! <— important because it has THREE exclamation points
Out this week (MAY 12th) is SILVER COIN #2 from Image. This is by me and the fantastic Michael Walsh. It’s part 2 of an anthology series that has a rotating cast of writers. You may have heard about issue #1 by this young upstart talent Chip Zdarsky. What a guy!
Anyway, we’re doing dark and gory teenage slasher horror…and it’s not for the faint of heart. Enter at your own risk!
CAPTAIN MARVEL has a skip month for May (but check out Sneak Peeks anyway if you’re jonesing for some Carol) but an all-new arc of BLACK WIDOW begins on MAY 26th with Black Widow #7. And it is absolutely gorgeous, I’m telling you. Here’s the stunning Adam Hughes cover, but check out the sneak peeks section for…well, sneak peeks.
That’s actually it for May…but I haven’t talked at all about another really exciting non-Marvel project I got to work on thanks to Jeff Lemire and the fantastic folks at Dark Horse - BLACK HAMMER: VISIONS #5 (out JUNE 9th, 2021).
If you’re not already on board because Black Hammer is cool as hell, then let me pitch it to you as the long anticipated return of #TeamHawkeye! That’s right, this is drawn by Leonardo Romero and colored by Jordie Bellaire and let me tell you what, we had a GREAT time. And the issue is insanely gorgeous. Huge thanks to Jeff and everyone at Dark Horse for letting me be part of this awesome series. Pick it up JUNE 9th!
So, if you’re eagle-eyed, you maybe already heard about this, but *I* haven’t had the chance to talk about it, so I think it belongs in announcements (it’s a grey area, let it go!) Dark Horse has decided to release a new edition of my first ever OGN - HEART IN A BOX with the incredible Meredith McClaren (art, colors, letters, she did it all!) This will release JULY 14th, 2021. It’s a larger edition (7x10) compared to the first more “digest sized” edition and it’s got a lovely new cover and some fun bonus material. If you’ve had trouble finding the first edition (the struggle is real) or if you’re just a hardcore Kelly Thompson or Meredith McClaren collector, please look for this in July!
I’d also like to take a moment to encourage readers who may be more familiar with me through more mainstream “Big Two” books, to consider this more indie style emotional roller coaster of a book. It is truly my first professional comics work and while sometimes that can be bad, I stand by this, it’s a beautiful and gut wrenching journey with a lot of heart, largely thanks to Meredith’s incredible visuals. PR people like to say HIAB is for fans of Scott Pilgrim. I don’t know if that’s true or not…but let’s say it is since that book is WILDLY SUCCESSFUL. A few favorite moments:
I know what you jackals are REALLY here for. It’s the exclusives! ; )
BLACK WIDOW #7 (out 5/26/21):
BLACK HAMMER: VISIONS #5 (out 6/9/21):
CAPTAIN MARVEL 29 (out 6/23/21):
I’m still figuring out if this is a good idea. Do you guys want to be able to send in questions and I answer one or two per newsletter? Is that a thing? Let me know what you think in the comments!
And with that…we’re done. As usual, too long and too many exclusive (and non-exclusive) images, but next time I’ll bring some discount codes for my webshop as an apology. Deal? Well, I can’t hear you, but I’ll assume you’re nodding enthusiastically.
I should have all my conversations like this…it goes so well for me!
Thanks for reading, my lambs. Take care of each other. <3
