Well well well, look who’s not respecting the Eisner. Someone is going into kitty time-out until he learns some respect!

I don’t want to dwell on this as I’ve already talked plenty about it on here, but getting this award, holding it in my hand…it was a good day. There are a lot of hard frustrating days in comics…for a variety of reasons. But I had to sit back and really take a moment and enjoy this because it’s a big deal and it means the world to me. Thanks to all of you for reading and supporting my work, for telling your friends and colleagues about it - it’s all of you that makes this possible for me and I’m incredibly grateful.

  1. This Week!

  2. Sneak Peeks!

  6. CATS!

THIS WEEK!

BLACK WIDOW #11 by myself, Rafael De Latorre, Jordie Bellaire, and Cory Petit came out yesterday! I hope you picked it up because it has this amazing Adam Hughes cover…that I totally expect to sell out for several very obvious reasons:

Black Widow #11 Cover by Adam Hughes

ALSO! I believe the 4th IT’S JEFF! strip by myself and the incredible art team Gurihiru drops tomorrow (Friday).

If you somehow missed out on IT’S JEFF so far - it’s one of Marvel’s new digital only “Infinity Comics” strips, which you can find on the newly improved Marvel Unlimited. Jeff has gone legit viral on Twitter and Tik Tok…which will hopefully equal a lot of people reading his comic? But you never know. Regardless, here’s a tiny - but maximum amount adorable - taste:

SNEAK PEEKS

I’m afraid the above is all the sneak peek I can offer on IT’S JEFF, but here are a few for BLACK WIDOW and CAPTAIN MARVEL.

From this week’s BLACK WIDOW #11:

Black Widow #11: Words by me, Art by Rafael De Latorre, Colors by Jordie Bellaire, Lettering by Cory Petit.

From the forthcoming BLACK WIDOW #12:

Black Widow #12: Art by Elena Casagrande.

From the forthcoming CAPTAIN MARVEL #33:

Captain Marvel #33: Words by me, Art by Sergio Davila, Inks by Sean Parsons, Colors by Jesus Aburtov, Lettering by Clayton Cowles.

WHAT I’M DOING

I’m still really behind on everything tbh. I’ll try to find some time next week to talk about some comics I’ve been reading, shows I’ve been watching, and movies I want to recommend, but in the meantime I’ll throw down this controversial photo of what happened to my eggs when I bought a new pan and thought “it’s just a pan. what could happen?”

CHAOS THAT’S WHAT:

Chaos Eggs. Just because you’ve made sunny side up eggs hundreds of times…doesn’t mean it will always work out I guess?

Day two with the new pan went much better.

Q&A

This question was posted by David Lozano a few weeks back:

I do have a multipart […] question about Carol this week. Now that Carol has been officially half Kree for a good while, and can clearly speak Kree, I was wondering, would she technically be considered Kree diaspora, both in and out of universe? And by extension is her trying to reconnect/immerse herself with the Kree on a cultural/societal level something that you’d be willing/interested in exploring at any point in the future?

Hey David. Thanks for the question!

Yes. I think given Carol’s revealed heritage she would be probably be considered Kree diaspora. That’s certainly part of why Minerva reached out to her in early issues in this Cap run - they’ve always had a fraught relationship - but Minerva, at the heart of everything she does is love of her people - the Kree. She makes a lot of really bad decisions in the spirit of protecting the Kree people from being wiped out, and Carol’s part of that now - she’s part of Minerva’s flock. I think Carol has renewed interest in her heritage after learning the truth from her mother, but I would say her half sister’s role in her life will help drive her interest in Kree culture (etc) more than anything now.

I AM interested in exploring these things. But if I’m honest I don’t like taking Carol into space for long repeated arcs. I felt we’ve had a lot of that (much of it very good) before I came onto the book and so I wanted to pivot away from that and lean into making Earth Carol’s clear home base again, giving her a solid/regular supporting cast, and even a literal base of operations…admittedly since it’s not in NYC we don’t get to use that as much as I’d like! So keeping Carol a bit more Earth-based sometimes gets in the way of leaning all the way into the Kree stuff? But we’ve got some exciting things coming that might satisfy you here - stay tuned!

CATS!

As further punishment for Clive not respecting the Eisner, just a photo of The Monarch today - The Monarch gathering up his favorite toys - SPRINGS:

Until next time, my lambs. Be good and kind when possible, and wear your mask.

I wouldn't blame you if you showed that award off all the time. Be proud of your son and accomplishments.
