Ken Nation Rise Up
Talking 'Bout My Ken-eration? Idk.
The power of Gurihiru compels you!
So Jeff got a new friend last week, and because I’m so behind, it’s going under a banner called “this week” — fun!
Anyway, if you’re not reading IT’S JEFF comics on Marvel Unlimited you might have missed his debut in JEFF WEEK: THE KRAKEN WAKES.
This ran in late September — a strip a day — the first two by myself and Gurihiru, the last three by myself and artist Goodman Yamada.
Marvel has been interested in me (and a co-creator) making a new “weird/cute/non-human character” for a while now and I’ve been pretty resistant, but knowing Gurihiru would be on board to design this guy made it a lot easier to give in. Suffice to say I am greatly happy with the results
Ken, like Jeff, is… a bit off. He’s a septapus (7 legs, not the traditional 8 of an octopus). He’s also pink-ish and… furry? Yeah, you don’t question this cuteness. You can learn more about him by reading his special, available on Marvel Unlimited now. I assume this WILL eventually be collected in print with other Jeff-stuff.
Gurihriu and I already at work on a new Halloween-themed JEFF WEEK (which is more accurately a Jeff month — with a strip a week over the month of October) — it should start THIS WEEK so keep your eyes peeled. Ken will be making another appearance as will Jeff’s penchant for wearing costumes, of course. And I hope you guys love it. Again, this will be available on Marvel Unlimited, but I expect it to be collected in print in some form a bit later.
I did a short interview with Marvel about all things Jeff this week too.
I’m sorry I was too busy working to have much time to promote the big week of JEFF and also ABSOLUTE WONDER #12 coming out (but Batman, it turns out, is a cruel mistress). Anyway. LAST WEEK WE ALSO HAD…
ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #12, which people are loving, despite the fact that most of the reveals were spoiled (grrrr) for those that are pretty plugged in to social media. Anyway, we’re getting so much love for this issue, and I was really excited about it but also anxious, so I am delighted to see the response. MILD SPOILERS below if you haven’t read the issue yet: I posted on Bluesky that one of my favorite small details in the issue was this shot of the Men-Fish rejoicing to be reunited with water after decades (?) in the maze. This is not something I specifically asked for in the script, it’s just one of the many benefits of working with a storyteller of Hayden’s caliber.

Oh. And in case you missed our “anniversary yeet”:
Also out was JEFF THE LAND SHARK #4 — one of my favorite issues of the series thus far — and my chance to once again write Elsa Bloodstone. Mild spoilers below for that issue if you haven’t read it yet: Jeff has been occasionally swallowing a “cartoon stone” that I invented inspired by some of Tokitokoro’s more loose and cartoon-y work on their Instagram — and we got to pay it off here with Elsa using it in a clever way that Mr. T-Rex did NOT care for after he swallowed them whole. So when Jeff eats the stone, the whole style of the book changes — going super cartoon-y and having more wacky “cartoon-based” rules — like this:
Also out last week was BIRDS OF PREY #26. Part 2 of 4 in our last arc of the series. I really enjoyed this one, where we got to do a bit of spy stuff, and some fun riddles as our ladies try to get to the bottom of a strange mystery:
Love these ladies and am already missing them. Sigh.
Hey! We get to use the announcements banner!
As many of you know, it’s hard to get my work graded and slabbed because I don’t do in person signings and cons and such. But those days are (sort of) over as Hayden, Jordie, and I have agreed to do a private signing for CGC where you can send your books in to get them signed and graded/slabbed, etc.
I’m sure many of you know way more about how this all goes than I do — but all the information is here at the link — let me know in the comments if you’ve got questions and I’ll try my best. ;D
If any of you are at NYCC and get your hands on one of these and are willing to part with it, or have an extra — hit me up and we can talk trade. ;D
My partner Adam is doing a fun interpretation of “inktober” this year, using his character Timb (one of my favorite of his many creations) to do a series of paintings for each letter of the alphabet. Bridge Troll is definitely my favorite (it hasn’t been revealed yet) but a definite runner up for me is T is for Those Dang Sex Lizards. So fun:
I don’t know if this counts as “fan art” but it’s absolutely incredible by artist MMartinez:
Some super fun Absolute Diana art this week. This one by Sabretooth1100:
Gorgeous piece by Enid Balam:
Beautiful and haunting. Some might say it’s depressing but I found the messages within interesting and worthy:
Welp. Gonna need THIS shirt:

From ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #13 (out 10/22 I THINK). This is by me, guest artist Matias Bergara, colorist Jordie Bellaire, and letterer Becca Carey.
Love this — one of the first shots we’re seeing of the Hieron exterior.
From JEFF THE LANDSHARK #5 (also out 10/22) by me, Tokitokoro, Jim Campbell, and Joe Caramagna:
Lo-key one of my favorite panels in the series, perfect Gwen and Jeff synergy:
IT’S JEFF: THE GREAT HALLOWEEN CAPER (weekly, beginning this week on Marvel Unlimited!) by yours truly and Gurihiru:
I’d love to come into a room even ONCE with this kind of energy:
BIRDS OF PREY #27 (penultimate issue! out 11/5/25) by me, Sami Basri, Vicente Cifu, Adriano Lucas, and Clayton Cowles:
Sami continues to draw one of my favorite Oracles (and Dinah) perfect artist for these two tbh:
Every once in a while I read another thing that says cats and dogs can’t see what’s on our screens. But I don’t really know how that can be true:
Take care of yourselves out there. And in case anyone wants to know from the people that actually live here, Portland is not “on fire” nor is it a “war zone.” It’s just an American city like any other.

In regards to Portland, it’s the same here in Chicago. Same as always and it’s not a warzone full of riots or people getting shot on corners.
I love Ken. And Jeff Week helped me get through a rough week, so thank you. I'm excited to see Jeff in more costumes.
