Welcome back to NYCC at home…part 2! I won’t bore you with chitchat.
Those of you hoping to grab one of the exclusive covers today will want to click the link straight away. For those of you just catching up, yesterday I put up FIVE one-of-a-kind BIRDS OF PREY #1 sketch covers with my jokey sketches on them — and I promised to release FOUR all-new ones that are NOT on Ebay, to the webstore today at NOON (pacific).
Here are the new covers.
SHARKS OF PREY:
FASTBALL SPECIAL:
SMALL CHARMING BARDA:
AND THE DEBUT OF…BAT-SHARK!
And if you missed these but still want to try your hand at getting a one of a kind sketch cover — there are five still up on Ebay. Most of them are bid up pretty high at this point — but a couple are still reasonable! Here’s the link to all of them from yesterday’s post:
This will probably be it for these unique sketch covers for a while.
If I am STILL struggling to pay off the last of the “Tax Man” I might do one more run during the Thanksgiving/BlackFriday/Cyber Monday window — and if splitting it between Ebay and the webstore goes well/you like it this time, we can try it again if we do it. But if not, this will be it for a while.
But as I said before — thank you — all of you — for helping me out in this tough time. I know a lot of you guys are also struggling — and it really means a lot that you’re trying to help me out. Especially at a time when, well, the world is truly fucking dark right now and I just don’t even know what to say or do about any of it.
It’s trite, but all I can come up with right now is trying to lead everything I do with kindness. I don’t mean letting people get away with horrible shit or anything, I just mean… trying to empathize and understand what others might be going through or dealing with. Trying to reach for my humanity and empathy when everything else is easier to reach for.
Anyway, it’s hard to talk about things like comic books at times like this, but this is also my job, literally how I survive, so how can I NOT talk about it? It’s also one of the best things in my life — my work and this community we’re building — as far as soothing me and comforting me in dark times. I’m sure it’s the same for many of you (not necessarily this space, but needing to retreat sometimes to something comforting that can give you some respite).
Kindness is everything to people who need it, and for most of us, most of the time, it costs very little.
Stay safe out there. Hug the people you love, make sure they know.
~Kelly
OH! — I have three Bluesky codes if you’re still trying to get out of the misinformation hellhole that Twitter has become — which, in the last week, has reached shocking new lows. Anyway, ask in the comments for a Bluesky code and I’ll hook you up — first three to ask will get the codes.
You’re right about kindness and the state of the world Kelly. You and your friends/colleagues work is what’s gotten me through 2015-present.
Great covers! Rest easy, Kelly, you are doing right by the comics world and right by humanity 💪
