Thanks to everyone that participated in our contest last week - it was a really nice little distraction for me from… well, everything being so goddamned horrible all the time.
To find the winner I basically just put all the entries, in order as they appeared in the comments, on a sheet and numbered them. Then used a random number generator to get our winner.
And that winner is…
drum roll please…
NICOLE!
Nicole created a female GOBLIN named Nycila that is
- Always Tired
- Once ate an entire block of cheese, was still hungry
- Loves Cashmere sweaters
- Smells of Lilacs
Basically an adorable Goblin cinnamon roll. And I am HERE FOR IT.
Meredith responded in adorable kind! Meet NYCILA:
Nycila will first be seen in the very next chapter of BLACK CLOAK (Chapter 5 out in June). She’s an activist like Sashenka and works with him, currently in Mermaid rights and conservation. So keep your eyes peeled (she is quite small!) ;D
And here are a couple fun little stats from our contest. I was excited to see that every month/class got at least one entry: Death Shard (Feb), Human (July), and Fairy (September) brought up the rear, each only getting one entry; while Elf (March), Goblin (May), and Shifter (November) shared the lead with 5 entries each.
The names you guys came up with were great – the exchange of vowels only honestly worked even better than I thought. Kept it simple while also creating a lot of names that seem ALMOST familiar but just slightly tweaked and really in line with the BLACK CLOAK world-building.
I don’t know if the other two books we’re doing here (THE CULL and our not net announced book) have any good options for doing something like this for them – but it was so fun that I’ll keep my eyes and mind open and looking for opportunities to do something like this there too.
Thanks again for playing and congratulations to NICOLE (and NYCILA)!
Stay safe out there. <3

OMG that's me! This is so seriously cool, I never get picked for anything LOL! Honestly, she kind of even looks like me! Seriously, so freakin cool!
Congrats Nicole! That was a lot of fun. Even if there wasn't a contest it'd be great to do again in the future
