That’s right guys… it’s your time to shine. Or to fall on your faces, it’s ALL UP TO YOU.
As we get closer to our launch date for BLACK CLOAK I find myself considering all our options before we commit to a path. As you guys know — I’ve talked about it quite a bit here and I know other comic creators with Substacks have as well — so much of what we’re doing here is an experiment. As the technology and demands change, so do we. We have both the gift and the curse of being some of the first comics to roll out on these platforms, and as such we want to be nimble and cater as much as possible to how people want to read it. After all, what we’re creating here is for all of us. And we have the ability to pivot and mold ourselves into almost anything we want. So let’s do just that, huh?
So the question has come up for me, as we make these final decisions on BC, about how you guys would actually PREFER to read BLACK CLOAK on Substack.
Initially the plan was to realease all the comics that debut here in weekly 5-ish page installments. One of my concerns early on was that part of my obligation here at Substack is to do X amount of posting — and so that was always a good reason to do weekly posts — so that becomes MORE of the posting. BUT we’re going to have so many comics releasing in 2022, and so much cool stuff to show off, I’m less worried about that than I once was. Additionally, as Substack has grown and changed over just the last few months (the Panels App in particular being a game changer), we just find ourselves with more options. Options are good! But I’d like your feedback before I make these decisions.
So I wanted to do a poll…but it’s not as easy as point and click on Twitter, so I’m going to have to rely on you guys putting your votes in the comments section. And I hope you’ll do that, because I really do value your feedback (note: only paid subscribers can comment).
Here are our options:
A) I like the idea of shorter (5-ish page) weekly installments.
B) I would prefer longer (20-ish page) monthly installments.
C) Let’s split the difference — twice a month — medium size installments (10-ish pages)
Please shout out what you’re feeling you’d like to see. It will be very helpful to me — and even to you if you’ve got a dog in this fight that you’re passionate about!
I welcome any and all commentary/discussion/thoughts you might want to add in your comments, but please make sure to include an A, B, or C answer as well so I can get some actual “poll results.”
Thanks, guys! <3

And I don’t mind a little give or take each delivery to match up with story beats
Zdarsky’s PUBLIC DOMAIN is great, and I have enjoyed the every-other-week-ness of it in little spurts, but when he dropped a full issue I realized I have been trained to gulp down (and enjoy) monthly pamphlets.
